The holistic approach looks at treating the whole person rather than the symptoms of the illness or disease. A properly trained Aromatherapist will have a very good knowledge of the therapeutic properties of essential oils and their chemical properties along with a sound knowledge of the bodies systems and functions to perform effective massage. Essential oils are often balancing in their effects, helping the body to retain a balanced state which in turn can help to avoid illness and disease. Some examples of a lack of balance could be extremes of heat - fever or hyperthermia, high blood pressure or low blood pressure, over production or under production of a variety of hormones.
